Coleman Texas

Coleman is an old-style town with plenty of local businesses and old homes. There have been a plethora of schools built since 1877 and some have played musical chairs to move lower class levels into larger campuses. For example, the pictured high school was built in 1926 due to enrollment doubling over the last 10 years. A gymnasium, band hall, cafeteria, and agriculture shop were built in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. A new high school was built in 1976 and the old location because Coleman Junior High, the prior Junior High (built in 1951) became South Ward Elementary, and the original South Ward School (built in 1922) was torn down in the early 1970’s. Unfortunately, the original High School has remained empty for at at least 30 years. At the time of this writing, someone put up new fencing to raise chickens in the rear.Â
