Camp San Saba Texas

The history of Camp San Saba goes all the way back to the 1850’s when Texas Rangers were stationed to protect settlers from Native American attacks. The name is believed to have come from the ranger’s camp. Its largest population existed in the late 1800’s with about 250 residents.

Aside from an abandoned school and a couple homes, Camp San Saba is basically a neighborhood in a rural setting. The church had been abandoned for several years and was being renovated into a home when I visited.

About 2 miles north was once a motel off Highway 87 that has been left to age and watch drivers speed by.
