Carta Valley was established in the 1890’s and saw the height of its population grow to 150 in the 1960’s, which did last long. What’s left today exists on a private road which is fenced off on either side of the highway that runs through. Along with a few scattered homes are the remains of a gas station, school, and boarded up houses. When walking on the original road running next to the newer highway, I saw one of the biggest spiders in Texas.Â
