The south Fort Worth Incinerator on Echo Lake was only used from the 1950-1960’s. Aside from rotting for 50+ years, it has been a popular place for graffiti artists and drug addicts. I have heard of muggings and read of at least 2 deaths, including a teen falling two years ago. A couple attempted to clean up the area to be used as a local venue and recruited several volunteers last year until people realized that they were raising funds for land which they falsely claimed to own. It is a neat-looking place but seems to be one of those places that still exists because it cost too much to level—not for its historic importance. I happened to visit on a Sunday afternoon when several people were doing photo shoots and was invited to participate. Other than a couple candid pictures, I did my best to shoot around and giggle to myself.
