Abilene opened the Anson Jones Elementary School in 1947. Continued growth lead to adding 3 classrooms to support grades 1-7 by 1950 and another 9 in 1957 after changing to 1-6. It served as other types of learning facilities before being abandoned and left as a shell surrounded in fencing.
