Although many towns dried up partially or completely after Interstates made Route 66 obsolete, Adrian will remain a popular stopping point as long as we remember this historic cross-country highway. It is the midpoint between Chicago and Los Angelas. The Fabulous 40 Hotel and Midpoint Cafe, originally Jessie’s Cafe built in 1925, still serve passersby.
Not everything remains relevant in Adrian. I found an old service station and multi-purpose building in town which seems to have been forgotten for at least 30 years, as well as an abandoned grain elevator just a few miles East of town.
