Some people refer to Alanreed as another Route 66 ghost town due to a few historical buildings no longer in use. The First Baptist Church, built in 1904, is one of the longest standing structures. After decades of holding regular service, a wall calendar tells me that operations wound down or stopped around 2006. This seemed to be supported by its outside maintenance and layers of dust inside. Everything was otherwise frozen in time.
The 66 Super Service Station had clearly been renovated in the near-past, with vibrant colors bringing back memories of its creation in 1930. However, time is once again taking its toll.
