Pearville was established in the late-1800’s. However, the residents weren’t fond of its name coming from a reference to pear moonshine, and voted to rename to Austonio in 1930. It has always been a small community and consistently been around 40 residents for some time. The Austonio consolidated school operated from 1931-1964 and is currently fenced off on farmland, surrounded by cows and a cell phone tower.
