A barely noticeable marker for Bend Cemetery sits on the side of a single lane dirt and gravel road in rural Mexia. Deep inside a heavily wooded and overgrown area are 95 graves dating from 1886-1974. Many of these plots are resting places for ex-slaves who established the Cedar Creek Community in Limestone County.
