Approximately 10-15 years after a farming settlement began in the 1880’s, the official name of Cayuga was given after its first postmaster’s hometown in New York. Early and recent populations have fluctuated from 50-200. However, a brief oil boom brought this number up to 1,000 between the end of the Great Depression through World War II.
You won’t find much evidence of Cayuga’s heyday when driving through today. Homes are situated on farmland, much like was over a hundred years back. One relic might be missed without searching, an old church hidden behind mature trees and brush.
